Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has assembled an elite “superintelligence” team of 11 researchers—remarkably, every single one immigrated to the U.S., having completed undergraduate studies abroad. These hires bring a wealth of expertise from leading AI labs such as OpenAI, DeepMind, Google, and Anthropic.
The newcomers comprise specialists in large language models, multimodal AI, AI safety, and scalable inference. They hail from nations including China, India, the UK, and Australia. Most went abroad for their undergraduate studies and later contributed to breakthroughs in systems like GPT‑4o, Gemini, and ChatGPT.
This hiring wave follows Meta’s reorganization into Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL), led by Alexandr Wang—CEO of Scale AI—and ex‑GitHub head Nat Friedman. The move reflects Zuckerberg’s strategic push to scale AI leadership by attracting global talent—a testament to the critical role of immigration in the U.S.’s AI supremacy.
